This project developed a clear, community-informed brief for Doris Lusk Reserve, shaping how the space would be used, experienced, and invested in.

Place Cadets worked alongside local children and community group Te Whare Roimata, community membersnand council to explore how the park could better support everyday use, increase activity, and contribute to a stronger sense of safety and connection.

Through a structured co-design process, tamariki contributed directly to the brief for an interactive play and public artwork identified in the Linwood Village Master Plan. Their insights helped clarify priorities for the space, supporting more inclusive design decisions and providing clear direction for future investment. The project demonstrates how engaging children early can strengthen project briefs, support confident decision-making, and lead to public spaces that are more actively used and valued by their communities.
